Brit'S Design Tips
  • Your home should reflect your personality through color, design and overall vibe.
  • When designing your living room, mixing and matching is great way to combine objects you’ve collected over the years with modern elements to bring it all together.
  • Commit to a color scheme, then go wild! It’s easy to end up with a room that looks like a color explosion, but if you limit your color palette to a few key hues, it’s easy to add as few or as many accents as you like.
  • Get creative! Use a service like Shutterfly to turn your photos and digital designs into custom pillows, coasters and blankets that coordinate. It’s amazing what a little planning can do to elevate your space.
  • Potted plants are a must. These will add life and color to your room without needing to be refreshed every week. Succulents and cacti tend to be the heartiest and most colorful.
  • Turn one wall of your living room into a rotating art gallery. Fill it with a mix of photographs printed on wood or canvas made on Shutterfly, prints or artwork found at flea markets and art fairs, and a few pinned-up postcards. Change things out a few times a year to keep it fresh.
  • Your home is all about you, so don’t stress too much about the design. Make it a space that you’re happy to come home to, and proud to show off to your friends and family.
